When we design a system whose goal is to reach consensus, we can go about it in multiple ways:

  • choose a leader randomly and letting them decide among a pool of"legal" options. This is the path taken by BitCoin
  • orchestrate a vote, as in BigChainDB or other theoretical systems
  • let those with high reputation decide, as e.g. in Colony
  • a distributed way to determine a worker's contribution percentage on a project is through peer-to-peer reviews (peer-to-peer, peer-to-client, client-to-peer). As seen with Covee
